Ekiuwa is the founder of Our Ancestories & a celebrated children's book author known for her inspiring stories about African history.

Nic Brewer

Nic is a queer, autistic writer and editor. Her first novel, Suture, was published by Book*Hug. She is the co-founder of Frond, an online literary journal for prose by LGBTQI2SA writers.

Jaclyn Desforges

Jaclyn is the author of Danger Flower, winner of the 2022 Hamilton Literary Award for Poetry and one of CBC's picks for the best Canadian poetry of 2021.

Farzana Doctor

Farzana is a Tkaronto-based author and psychotherapist with four critically acclaimed novels. In 2023, Farzana received the prestigious Freedom To Read Award.

Kim Fahner

Kim’s latest book of poems, Emptying the Ocean, was published by Frontenac House in 2022. She is Ontario Representative for The Writers' Union of Canada.

Erica London

Erica is a Canadian-Trinidadian children's author and founder of Colour Their World (CTW), providing children's literature and products that assist in educational learning.

Tanis MacDonald

Tanis is the author of Straggle: Adventures in Walking While Female and six other books. She is the recipient of The Malahat Review’s Open Season Award for Nonfiction and the Robert Kroetsch Award for Teaching Creative Writing.

Fareh Malik

Fareh was named the 2022 RBC PEN Canada New Voices Award winner. His debut book Streams That Lead Somewhere released in 2022 with Mawenzi House Publishers.

Dwayne Morgan

Dwayne is a two-time Canadian National Poetry Slam Champion. He has received both the African Canadian Achievement Award, and the Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in the Arts.

Tony North

Tony is a Paris-based high school teacher and writer originally from Sydney, Australia. His first young adult fiction novel, Tess, was independently published in 2022.

Robert Priest

Robert is a bestselling Canadian songwriter & poet. His latest book of poems, If I Didn’t Love the River, was pubished by ECW in 2022.

Bruce Simpson

Bruce is a Hamilton-based kindergarten teacher, children's author and performer. His books include Paislee and the Talking Tree and Missing Cow.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This event is entirely outdoors & will happen rain or shine.

AND…

  • This is a free public event by Riverside Reading Series (RRS).

  • Books will be available for purchase from participating writers & independent publishers.

  • Acceptable forms of payment for books will include cash, debit/credit cards & e-transfers (internet access will not be provided).

  • Local authors will be available to sign copies of their books.

  • Food & drink will be available for purchase directly from Altitude Coffee Roasters, Back Alley Meats & Norfolk Juice Co.

  • This is an accessible event.

  • Accessible seating will be available directly in front of the amphitheatre during the event.

  • A limited number of chairs will be available for audience members at the amphitheatre. Seating at the amphitheatre is otherwise BYOBC (bring your own blanket or chair).

  • RRS volunteers will be available during the event to respond to any on-site questions, comments and/or concerns.
