Our series is thrilled to partner with Six Nations Tourism at Chiefswood National Historic Site for our Fall 2024 reading events!

Join us on Saturday, October 26th at 2pm for presentations of original writing by Rod Carley, Nina Dunic, Cynthia Matthews, and January Rogers.

  • BOOKS will be available for purchase.

  • LIGHT REFRESHMENTS will be provided.

Chiefswood National Historic Site is the birthplace and childhood home of Mohawk poetess E. Pauline Johnson.

Arrive at 1pm to take a self-guided or guided tour Chiefswood.

  • Self-guided tour = $10/per person

  • Guided tours = $15/per person

ROD CARLEY is an author, humourist, actor, director, playwright, and cat wrangler. He is the award-winning author of four works of literary fiction: RUFF (released in September 2024), GRIN REAPING (long listed for the 2023 Leacock Medal for Humour, 2022 Bronze Winner for Humour from Foreword Review INDIES, a Finalist for the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Award for Humor/Comedy, and long listed for the ReLit Group Awards for Best Short Fiction of 2023); KINMOUNT (long listed for the 2021 Leacock Medal for Humour and Winner of the 2021 Silver Medal for Best Regional Fiction from the Independent Publishers Book Awards); A Matter of Will (Finalist for the 2018 Northern Lit Award for Fiction). 


His short stories and creative non-fiction have appeared in a variety of Canadian literary magazines including Broadview (winner of the 2022 Award of Excellence for Best Seasonal Article from the Associated Church Press), Cloud Lake Literary, Blank Spaces, Exile, HighGrader, and the anthology 150 Years Up North and More. He was a finalist for the 2021 Carter V. Cooper Short Fiction Prize. 

Rod is a popular author and moderator with literary festivals and book clubs and has facilitated a variety of writing-related workshops and webinars. NINA DUNIC is a two-time winner of the Toronto Star Short Story Contest, has been longlisted by the CBC Short Story Prize four times, and was nominated for The Journey Prize. CBC Books named Dunic in its 2023 Writers to Watch list. Her debut novel The Clarion (Invisible Publishing) was longlisted for the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize, was selected as Best Canadian Debut by Apple Books, and was a Globe and Mail 100 Best Book of 2023. CINDY MATTHEWS is a multi-genre creator who works as a visual artist and short story / essay writer. Her award-winning short story collection Took You So Long was published by Porcupine’s Quill in 2022.

This past February, publisher Suzanne Craig-Whytock of DarkWinter Press released The Roach Family and Other Stories. In June, Cindy fulfilled a lifelong dream when she was one of the presenting authors at the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story, an annual multi-day literary event held in Huron County.

Prior to the pandemic lockdown, Cindy penned opinion editorials for the Walkerton Herald-Times and SpotLight West Grey. She loves helping new and emerging writers develop their craft through participation in her half-day writing workshops.

Cindy lives with her husband, John, in a blue house that overlooks Deer Creek in Brockton, Ontario.
